This latest intervention follows escalating violence across Blue Nile and North Kordofan regions, where competing military forces remain entrenched in their fierce contest for control.
Drone Strikes Disrupt El Obeid
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), several drone attacks struck El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, on Wednesday.
At a time when continuing attacks and insecurity in northern parts of the state are driving further displacement into the city.
Humanitarian organizations estimate that approximately 15,000 households have relocated to El Obeid within the last three weeks. This steady stream of newcomers is straining already overwhelmed shelters and essential services.
Clashes in Blue Nile
Separately, Blue Nile state experienced deadly confrontations in Geisan town on Tuesday. Local reports indicate that more than twenty civilians lost their lives, while numerous others sustained injuries during the fighting.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) documented that around 2,500 residents were compelled to abandon their residences following the violence.
Humanitarian Appeal Underfunded
OCHA has once again emphasized the need for all combatants to shield civilians and critical infrastructure, while ensuring humanitarian assistance can flow freely and without impediment.
The UN body also called upon international donors to increase financial support for relief efforts across Sudan.
The current year's humanitarian appeal totals nearly $3 billion, yet only 41 percent has been secured so far, with $1.2 billion already collected.
The armed confrontation between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—once allies—began in April 2023 and has since triggered the most extensive displacement crisis globally.
